Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI) is a leading Irish charity working with people who are homeless and in addiction. The organisation provides services ranging from homeless drop in services where people can access food, showers and toilets to crisis intervention services for people struggling with addiction. MQI also offer people primary health care services (nursing, doctors and mental health services) and residential treatment, detox and prison addiction counselling.

MQI believes in a just society where no-one has to face homelessness or addiction alone, and where everyone has the support they need to reduce the harm caused by homelessness and addiction. Founded by the Franciscans in Dublin in 1969, MQI services are now based in 19 locations, across 12 counties in Ireland. MQI is committed to meeting the changing needs of our clients and has recently opened a pioneering service (Jane's Place) for women with complex needs and will open Ireland's first Medically Supervised Injecting Facility (MSIF) in 2024.


Reporting to the Head of Fundraising & Communications, the Deputy Head of Fundraising & Communications will be responsible for leading a small, highly motivated team, giving strategic direction that will drive continued income growth from fundraising and deepen people's understanding of the challenges faced by our clients through creative communication activities. This role is responsible for delivering fundraising strategies to generate revenue and maximize income streams, ensuring annual fundraising targets are met. Working collaboratively with the Senior Management Team the successful candidate will ensure that new fundraising and communications campaigns are developed which support the work of the charity over the long term.


Suitably qualified and interested candidates will hold significant experience of leading a team of people and have substantial and demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of managing a complex individual giving programme. The ideal candidate will hold experience of developing and delivering successful fundraising strategies, promoting charity brands, creating compelling and professional fundraising materials and delivering successful and high-profile fundraising campaigns. In addition, the successful candidate will have major giving experience, excellent networking skills with the ability to build and steward meaningful relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

They will be passionate about fundraising with a mindset of innovation and continuous improvement. They will have the capacity to think strategically and creatively while delivering hands on impact.
